Ontario is experiencing increases in the bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) chlamydia, gonorrhea and infectious syphilis. Increases have also been documented in other provinces and internationally.
This session aims to enhance practitioners’ awareness of the overall increase in STIs, promote STI screening among priority populations, and encourage effective prevention and control measures to assist in reducing STIs in Ontario.
Attendees will receive an overview of the epidemiology of bacterial STIs from provincial, national and international perspectives. Presenters will highlight risk factors associated with acquiring and transmitting bacterial STIs and populations identified as priorities for STI screening. Additionally, evidence-informed STI prevention and control measures – such as risk reduction counselling and expedited partner therapy will be discussed.
